The psychotherapists Pia Mellody and Melody Beattie, who I mention in this artcile and others explore this phenomenon. It is commonly known as love addiction. It's more commonly seen in women than men due to the men traditionally being the absent breadwinner. I think I'm repeateing alot of my article here. But it's incredibly common.
