This is exactly how I think. I have been quite vocal about the many problems with AA before but although I have written extensively on this I’ve never published as I also see how for many people this is a life line. Writing about addiction at times feels like an impossible responsibility. I want to help people through telling my story but also know that because everyone’s path is so different what I say can be affirming for some but negative and contradictory for others. The danger with isolating or offending those who struggle with addiction is that I worry about the consequences. I often think that those who haven’t been through this really have absolutely no idea how ill people are when caught up in the throes of addiction. I think I will finish up my article this weekend, you have inspired me to get my opinions out there
