As any childless woman will tell you, when her friends start getting knocked up, her life changes. Everyone is ‘too busy’ or ‘too tired’ to go out. They make arrangements then cancel at the last minute because they ‘couldn’t get the baby to sleep’ (did you make this human on your own? Can’t your husband help out for a change?). When they do come out with you, the conversation revolves around breastfeeding, Sophie dolls and vaginal haemorrhoids. They no longer have time to keep up with current affairs or think about their careers so never have anything interesting to say. If you do manage to sway their attention towards something a little more interesting for a second, they give you the You-Wouldn’t-Understand-Because-You’re-Not-A-Mother look and you are quickly back to square one. And, worst of all, they can’t drink. Don’t try to tell me a woman who’s been on mocktails all night…
